The city police are planning to produce notorious criminals in court via video conference in order to avoid the security hassles involved in transporting them to and from jail. The department has written a letter to the concerned authority of the district court, asking for more single

courtrooms to conduct video conferences for notorious inmates.

At present, the district court has only one video conference room which is not sufficient for all the criminals. “We need separate video conference rooms so that we can produce notorious criminals via video conference,” said a senior official.

At present Bhondsi Jail in Gurugram houses around 2,150 inmates which includes almost 8 to 10 notorious gangsters groups. “The move is aimed at facilitating speedy trials and to maintain law and order in court premises,” said Sandeep Khirwar, Police Commissioner of  Gurugram.

“We always worry about the security of the criminals when we produce them physically. This is the time for their rivals gangs to target them. So we just want to secure them from other criminals,” he added.

"It is also expected to address the problem of deploying a large number of police personnel to escort criminals. Via video conference we can save moneyof  the Government as well."

According to a police source, there is a huge shortage of police personnel in Bhondsi Jail. As it is not easy for them to provide adequate security, sometimes they produce notorious criminals in the court at high risk.

"We have given the proposal to the headquarter to install CCTV cameras across the jail premises. We hope it would be installed by March next year. Apart from this we have also submitted a proposal to the headquarters to buy more weapons," Bhondsi Jail Superintendent Harender Singh said.

"Recently we have deployed 12 personnel of QRT (quick response team) in jail premises so that we can avoid any mishappenning. We are on high alert after the jail break incidence of Nabha in Patiala," he added.
