As a step towards smoothening the grievance redressal system at police stations, Delhi Police has inducted 60 women Public Facilitation Officers in as many as 20 police stations. The scheme was launched formally on Friday by Commissioner of Police, Amulya Patnaik at the Connaught Place Police Station.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the CP said, “ The system has been started in 20 police station and it will be reviewed and started in more police stations in future,”
This has been done to make the Public Facilitation Desk more responsive, empathetic and effective. In due course, the facility will be extended to other police stations in Delhi.
Earlier, the Duty Officer was supposed to interact with the visitors/complainants in the police stations.
It was experienced that due to the pre-occupation of the duty officer with many other urgent duties, the visitors had to wait for a long period of time for them to be attended to.
Also many a times, the visit to the police station by a complainant was not fruitful as the Investigation Officer/Station House Officer was not available in the police station for some reason or the other. In order to take care of these problems which were normally being faced by the public, the Public Facilitation Officers have been inducted in police stations.
The women Public Facilitation Officers have been trained and duly sensitised. They were chosen after a proper interview and put on an intensive training for three days. Three Public Facilitation Officers will work at the Public Facilitation Desk round-the-clock in three shifts.
