Delhi Police cracks whip on tainted cops

Pramod Kumar Singh

In a stern message to all Station House officers (SHOs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) posted in Sub-Divisions to perform or perish, Special Commissioner of Police, law and Order Deepak Mishra sent five SHOs to police lines pending departmental enquiry.

ACP, Mehrauli was also removed and attached with the office of the DCP, South as he was found guilty of manipulating the post-mortem report in the murder of liquor baron Ponty Chadha. It is alleged that the ACP colluded with certain people and in a deliberate act, did not press for the removal of two bullets from the body of Ponty Chadha. He was also found guilty of gross dereliction of duty in handling the Ghausia Mosue issue.

The SHOs who were ordered to report to the police lines are, Inspector Raj Kumar Khatana, SHO lahauri Gate, Inspector Jata Shankar Mishra, SHO Sarai Rohilla, Inspector Veereshwar Malik, SHO Burari, Inspector Ravi Kant Mishra SHO Maurice Nagar and Inspector Kl Yadav, SHO RK Puram.

Inspector Khatana was shunted out to North district police lines for defiance and non performance. Senior police officers said that he was trying to function independently and was not heeding to instructions and orders of his senior officers. His overall conduct was found to be bad and he was not involved in the job of day to day policing. He was given marching orders on Thursday by the Joint Commissioner of Central Range, Taj Hassan.

Special CP law and Order had taken a very dim view of Khatana's conduct and his non-performance and asked the Jt CP Central Range to send him to district police lines.

Inspector Jata Shankar Mishra was sent to North district police lines. Deepak Mishra said that recently a gambling den was busted in Sarai Rohilla where Rs 15 lakh was recovered in a raid. Inquiry by senior police officers revealed that gambling was being carried out with the active connivance of the SHO of Sarai Rohilla police station. He was accordingly removed and asked to report to the district police lines. Inspector Mishra will have to face a departmental inquiry as an SHO is not supposed to collude with those who are into organised crime, a senior police officer said.

Inspector Veereshwar Malik was booted out from Burari police station as he was found involved with land sharks in the area. He had even allowed an accused of a sexual offence off the hook. The accused got bail as the Investigating Officer (IO) did not oppose it, acting on the direction of the SHO. Apart from this glaring misconduct, Malik was also found to have been involved with several property dealers in Burari.

Several complaints were made to the Jt CP, Central Range and Special CP, law and Order and investigated by the district vigilance and the District Investigation Unit (DIU). He was sent packing after allegations were substantiated. He now faces departmental action too, the official added.

Inspector Kl Yadav who was holding the charge of SHO RK Puram was sent to South district police lines. Special CP, law and Order himself went as a decoy customer to Sanjay Colony on Wednesday night and purchased four bottles of liquor that were being sold in connivance with the police. Yadav was removed the very next day pending a departmental enquiry. However, Inspector Ravi Kant was the only exception who had asked to be relieved from his duties as the SHO of Maurice Nagar police station owing to father's health.
