The Delhi Police have launched a citywide ‘general gasht’ (patrolling) aimed at providing heightened surveillance, preventing crime, and responding promptly to emergencies during the early hours, an official said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the patrolling started at 9 pm on Tuesday and concluded around 2 am, with a heavy police presence across the national capital.

This comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level law and order review meeting.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said, “All police personnel from Dwarka, along with officials from units like IFSO, Special Cell, DPA, DAP, Crime Branch, Special Branch, and traffic police, among others, patrolled high-priority areas, including residential colonies, commercial hubs, and public spaces.”

He added that the patrolling, supported by both foot and vehicle patrols, with increased monitoring of vulnerable spots, helped deter criminal activity, reassured public confidence, and enhanced community engagement during the night. CCTV surveillance, APNR cameras, and mobile units were used to track suspicious activities and ensure rapid response capabilities, he said.

During the operation, DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary said that 500 police personnel, including seven Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and 111 upper subordinates, were deployed throughout the district.
