In a bid to curb the practice of tax evasion, the Delhi Government’s Trade and Taxes Department has come up with an award scheme under which, the general public can earn rewards up to Rs50,000 just by uploading the bill of their purchases.

Titled Bill Banvao, Inaam Pao (Get a bill and earn award), the scheme would be applicable for bill, cash memo or retail invoice of purchases made from a registered dealer in Delhi. The maximum prize money under the scheme is Rs50,000. To be eligible for the award scheme, the taxable value of the goods purchased should not be less than Rs100, said a statement issued by the Government.

It added that the purchaser can upload the bill on the department’s website or they may take a snapshot of the bill and send on the designated number of the department through WhatsApp.

“A unique id would be generated for each bill and sent to the customer via SMS. The bill has to be uploaded within seven days of purchase to be eligible for the scheme.

The purchaser would have to mention their name and either mobile number of e-mail id,” said the statement adding that the bill should have the registration number (TIN) of the dealer besides full name of each item purchased, apart from rate of tax charged against each and total sale value (excluding VAT).

“In case of a winner, the cash award would be transferred to the bank account of the purchaser directly after verification of the purchases from the seller through ward VAT Inspector.

The winner would be selected through a computerised draw of lots using the unique ids generated against each bill received by the department. The number of awards per month would be 1 per cent of the entries received for the month,” it said.

The statement added that prize amount would be five times the taxable value of the goods purchased in the bill subject to a maximum of Rs50,000. One person would be eligible for only one prize every month and higher of the prize amount would be awarded in case of multiple bills submitted, the statement added.
