Delhi Govt strips Gamlin of industries

Staff Reporter

In a move that can aggravate the raging controversy of transfers and posting being effected by the AAP Government by bypassing the lieutenant Governor, the Delhi Government has taken away the charge of Industries from Shakuntala Gamlin, Principal Secretary (Power).

Chetan B Sanghi, a 1988 batch officer, is likely to replace Gamlin as Principal Secretary (Industries). But there was some confusion about Sanghi’s appointment till Thursday evening as the Ministry of Home Affairs’ order might have dampened the spirit of decision-makers to make a controversial move like repatriation of Principal Secretary (Home) Dharampal and rejection of ACB chief Mukesh Kumar Meena. Sanghi is considered

to be a favourite of AAP Government. Sanghi was Chief Secretary of Puducherry. It is learnt that Sanghi may be given the charge of PWD and Urban Development.

Gamlin had hogged the headlines after the then Secretary (Services) Anindo Majumdar had issued orders for the appointment of Gamlin as the acting Chief Secretary  in the absence of Chief Secretary

KK Sharma who had proceeded on 10-day leave to visit his daughter in the United States. Upset over the way Majumdar had issued Gamlin’s orders, the AAP Government had reacted immediately by stripping the officer of the powers of the Secretary (Services).  On the first day of his leave, the Players Building had for the first time functioned without a CS. There are reports that Sharma had proceeded on leave as he was very upset over the way he was served showcause notice by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to explain why he had sent certain files to Raj Niwas.
