Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Adesh Gupta interacted with the traders association of Delhi through video conferencing on the “arbitrariness” of discoms in collusion with the Delhi government on Thursday.
The party in a statement said that the representative of various traders associations discussed the problems of huge electricity bills.
Gupta accused the Delhi government of dealing with the issue so irresponsibly even in times of crisis. “Delhi government did not take any action even on the problem of huge electricity bills given by discoms. All the establishments, businesses were closed and there was no electricity consumption during lockdown but still electricity bills were sent to them with a fixed charge,” he said.
“ The Kejriwal government should have directed the power companies not to send huge average bills and to remove fixed charges in electricity bills and send original bills after meter reading but they did not do so,” he added.
Gupta alleged that Delhi consumes a maximum of 22,800 MW of electricity during normal days, but only 7,500 MW of electricity was used during this lock-down period but fixed charges are also being taken on un-consumed electricity.
Power companies are also sending about Rs 426 crore as fixed charge to those establishments, offices and small industries which were closed due to lockdown, he said, adding that average bills are also being sent without subsidy.
