Proposed team to start work from Feb
In order to improve policing on Yamuna Expressway, the UP Government has planned to set up a dedicated police team for the entire carriageway. The announcement to this effect was made by the senior officials of Greater Noida Authority after a meeting in lucknow with the State Government officials this week. The officials said that if things go well, the proposed team will start working from February.
According to the officials a police station will come up in Dankaur area of Greater Noida.
The proposed team will deal with the law and order situation separately on the entire carriageway as the Expressway will become a separate zone now. A dedicated Superintendent of Police (SP) will head the police team consisting of Deputy SPs, inspectors, sub-inspectors, constables and other staff. Police posts will also be set up on the Expressway.
“The move will help in ending jurisdiction issues as the police of six districts will lose their control over the 165-kilometre Expressway. A notification from the Government is likely to be issued this month by the State Government,” said a senior official. Presently, jurisdiction of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Hathras, Aligarh and Agra police falls on Yamuna Expressway. The officials also said that there have been cases reported when the cops of these districts had fought over their jurisdiction. There is need for dedicated police in the said area. The local police have been asked to decide the requirement of the circle officers, and police stations, which will be built along this stretch between Greater Noida to Agra. It would be important to mention that nearly 100 people have lost their lives since its inauguration in August 2012 and the number of accidents can be controlled by improving police visibility. The accident victims also blame that they face a lot more trouble due to jurisdiction issue.
