December 16 gang-rape accused Vinay Sharma, who was shifted on Tuesday evening to lok Nayak Hospital (lNH) is stable and improving, said the doctors on Thursday. The reports of the bone marrow test done on him in order to ascertain whether he has a blood disorder are expected to come on Friday.
“His condition is better than before and the fever has come down. We have done a bone marrow test on him and the results usually take 48 hours to come but we have initiated that the medical investigation be revealed as soon as possible. He has had fever for about a week and there were typhoid like symptoms but since the TlC test has shown normal white blood cell count. We have established that the fever has been due to a viral infection,” said a senior doctor of the of the hospital adding that he is having his meals without any difficulty.
The accused was admitted at the Deen Dayal Upadhya Hospital last week where he was diagnosed provisionally with raised body temperature with a lower count of Red blood cells and white blood cells after which he was shifted to the lNH.
“He had been kept in the medicine ward and doctors are continuously attending him. There were no signs of vomiting blood as such but general body weakness due to prolonged fever. We have given him anti-biotics and injections. It will take some times for him to recover thus the discharge can’t be thought of at this moment,” said another senior doctor of the hospital.
Earlier Vinay’s counsel AP Singh had alleged that Vinay was being slowly poisoned in Tihar Jail, a charge rejected by the Tihar authorities. Health Minister Dr AK Walia said allegations about Vinay’s poisoning “did not seem to bear any limit”, but that a series of tests, including a bone marrow test would be conducted on Thursday.
“He has a history of fever of 8-10 days. While it may be a normal viral or bacterial fever, we have scheduled a bone marrow test, to rule out any blood disorder, and other complications,” Dr Walia said.
Meanwhile, Tihar Jail Administration submitted the medical report of Vinay in a city court on Thursday. However, the exact condition of the accused has not been mentioned in the medical report submitted before the court. In his report jail superintendent told the court that the exact condition and the progress report of Vinay will be submitted by the treating doctors of lN Hospital on Friday.
According to jail’s report submitted before the court, Vinay had complaint about pain on his body and high fever late night of May 2. He was given medical treatment in the jail hospital for four days and was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital on May 6. Vinay could not produce before the fast track court for day-to-day trail from May 2 due to his ill health.
Meanwhile, a Delhi police official was cross examined by defence counsel for his role in investigation in the case. During the trial police official
disposed that, “I had noticed the blood spot on the floor as well as on the corner of the bus.”
Countering the allegation of the defense counsel police official said, “It is wrong to suggest that accused Ram Sing was forced to sign on blank paper in the police station after beating him or his thumb impression was taken forcibly.”
