While the basic infrastructure and maintenance of hygiene in the State-run Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) hospital is in good condition, it can provide even better healthcare services to the patients if it is equipped with more paramedical staff and medical equipments for radiology and neurology departments, according to people who are regular at the hospital.

A senior doctor said, X-ray machine is not working for the past few years and there is only one CT-scan machine in the hospital, which is unable to cater to the needs of the patients.

“Due to the lack paramedical staff, equipment in the radiology department, patients are suffering. Everyday there is a long queue of patients,” said the doctor.

Dwarka resident Ram Kumar, a patient outside the radiology department, said, “For the past two hours, I am waiting for my turn but it hasn’t come till now. I don’t think it will come today.”

Meanwhile, Shahi Yadav from Tihar Village said she had to undergo CT-Scan again because the first time the machine had got stuck while working. However, she was satisfied with the maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness in the hospital.

While some patients are getting free medicine from the hospital pharmacy, however, due to less number of pharmacists, many patients turn back without taking the medicine.

When contacted, medical superintendent Dr Savita Babbar said, “We have approached the Government to increase the manpower and improve radiology and neurology departments for better healthcare facilities. We have sent the demand for equipment to the Government.” Doctors are of the opinion that there is huge shortage of space in the hospital. Government should also take steps in this regard as well.
