The New Year will fulfil dreams of thousands of people desiring to own a house in the national Capital as the Delhi Development Authority is set to offer 33,000 dwelling units. While several flats from its 2010 scheme are yet to be allotted, the premier housing agency is soon going to launch its new housing scheme 2014. Even as the Housing Authority has sent the plan to the lieutenant-Governor for his approval, it is expected to take off in February, before the Model Code of Conduct for the General Elections is imposed.

The scheme includes provision of 33,000 flats across the city, which would be made available to people in affordable rates. The type of these apartments would range from one to three bedrooms and the allotment procedure is most likely to begin from February onwards. Some of the locations where these flats will be constructed include Dwarka, Narela and Jasola.

However, the price range of these houses is yet to be declared. The authority plans to construct 24,660 flats under the low Income Group (lIG) category, whereas 11,500 houses will be constructed for the Mixed Income Group (MIG) category. Besides, there will also be nearly 2,000 HIG flats (High Income Group), which comes under the most expensive lot among others.

“In the new year, 2014, we have decided to launch a new housing scheme. This scheme will cover all the segments of the society and the flats will be made available in different parts of the city. The formal announcement in this regard will be issued shortly,” said a senior DDA official. The announcement, which has come after a gap of four years, has elated many. “We have been waiting for this announcement since long. My wife and I will surely apply as one person can submit only one form. last time, we tried but our names didn’t come out in the draw,” said Jogender Yadav, a Government official.

last time, DDA’s housing scheme announced in December 2010 had 16,000 flats were on offer in different parts of the city. The areas where these houses were made include Vasant Kunj, Rohini, Dwarka, Motia Khan, Mukherjee Nagar and Molarband. The prices of these flats ranged between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 1.12 crore. But, many have not even been allotted any house, especially those who have their flats in Rohini Sector 28 and 29 and Vasant Kunj. “It is really frustrating. I have been waiting for years, but water connection is yet to be given in my apartment. The house has also not been allotted to me as yet,” said Ganesh Thapliyal, who was allotted a DDA flat in Rohini.

“The application procedure is simple. Any Indian, who is 18 years and above, can apply for the scheme. The applicant should not own any residential flat or plot in full or in part on leasehold or freehold basis in Delhi either in his/her own name or in the name of the spouse or minor/dependent children. One person can submit only one application,” informed a DDA official.
