Praising work of the Delhi Police, the court in its judgment appreciated it for efficiently investigating the case and filing a detailed and comprehensive report in the investigation of brutal murder of 28-year-old Jigisha Ghosh. The court said prosecution was of great help in assisting the court to arrive at a just conclusion
According to the Delhi Police, the men who killed Jigisha were street criminals who very smartly executed the crime; with a lot of efforts on the part of the officials the police cracked the case.
“We unraveled everything within one week but it was like a blind case as they convicts had nothing against the victims, it was more of a street crime. We found out the ATM booth from where they made transactions from the victim’s credit cards. CCTV footage was also brought but it didn’t give us much information as they camouflaged themselves by wearing monkey caps. However, we informed our beat officers with as much information we had. We had the best of our officers working on in this case, said the then DCP (South Delhi) HGS Dhaliwal who investigated the matter.”
“The beat staff was very motivated and thus we got a lot of information and zeroed down the men involved and picked them up. After investigating the murderers, we corroborated the details with the evidences which we had established which was also supported by the witnesses,” Dhaliwal added.
The three convicts had left a long trail of evidence that helped police nail them down. After murdering Jigisha, Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla and Baljeet used her debit and credit cards for purchasing items like shoes, TV, goggles, watches at different shops where they were captured by CCTV cameras. They were also found to be possessing valuables of Jigisha.
“There were a lot of evidences against the trio, including an eyewitness who saw them abducting the girl,” said one senior police officer, who was closely associated with the investigation. In a footage, one of them was seen wearing the victim’s gold chain. Her zodiac sign rings of green and yellow sapphires were also found on them which were later identified by the victim’s parents, said the officer.
While shopping “carelessly” with victim’s cards, they also put in signatures on purchase slips which were later verified with the help of writing experts. Some slips were found under the bed of Kapoor’s house.
