The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a couple from Inderpuri area in West Delhi, involved in trafficking minor girls who were forced to work as bar dancers in Siliguri in West Bengal. With their arrest, police have rescued two girls. DCP (West) Vijay Kumar said that the arrested were Subir Das (32) and his wife Khushi (21).
“On Sustained interrogation, accused Khushi disclosed that Subir Das runs a dance bar at Cosmos Mall in Siliguri and had deputed her to bring girls from Delhi-NCR. Subir Das used to pay Rs 10,000 per girl to her for this work in addition to travel and others expenses.
“Accused Subir Das disclosed that he is running a dance floor at Cosmos mall and used to do these illegal acts for past few years,” said the DCP.
Police said that they came to know of the racket when Inderpuri cops received a complaint from a woman that one woman Khushi had taken her 20-year-old daughter and niece to work as welcome girls in weddings at Rajasthan for Rs 2,000 per day to each of them.
“However, Khushi took them slyly to Siliguri in West Bengal and forced them to work as bar dancer. The accused woman also took their IDs and did not allow them to leave Siliguri. Based on the statement of the victim’s mother, a case was registered at Inderpuri police station. Accordingly, a team was formed and left for Siliguri where they started gathering important clues about Khushi from locals in the area. Simultaneously, raids were conducted near Green Valley apartment, Rajpath road, Siliguri, West Bengal along with West Bengal police. Finally, both the girls were rescued from the accused Subir Das and Khushi. During counselling, the girls shared how they were handed over by Khushi to Subir who forced them to work as bar dancer. Moreover, Aadhaar cards and ID proofs were taken by the accused and kept these IDs in their self possession so that the girls cannot leave the place. When the girls refused to work as bar dancers, they were beaten up,” said Kumar.
