Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit sat on dharna at Raj Ghat, along with her party leaders and workers, over an incident of shooting at an effigy of Mahatma Gandhi before setting it ablaze on his death anniversary last Wednesday in Aligarh.
Terming the Aligarh incident “hurtful”, wherein Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha activists shot an effigy of Gandhi, Sheila said the entire country is enraged at the insult of Mahatma Gandhi under the BJP-led Government at the Centre.
She said that with the support of the people of the country and the party workers, the Congress will leave no stone unturned to uproot the “communal” BJP Government from the Centre.
Hitting out at the BJP, she said that the killers of Gandhi have once again defamed the Country in front of the world with their deplorable action. The Congress strongly condemns the “shameful” incident and silent protests have been organised against it by the party across the country, Sheila said.
Scores of protesters, carrying placards reading “Bapu Ke Seene Pe Vaar, Chup Kyon Hai Modi Sarkar”, took part in the protest. A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, drew massive condemnation. Former Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken, AICC in-charge of Delhi P C Chacko, working presidents Haroon Yusuf, Devendra Yadav and Rajesh Lilothia were also present.
