Three more constables assaulted in line of duty

The constant attacks on police officers on duty indicate that those who are supposed to enforce law need protection themselves. In another incident within a month, two constables sustained grievous injuries after a group of men attacked them on Sunday night in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area. Five men, including a juvenile, have been apprehended.

The incident took place around 8 pm near Nawada Housing Complex. Police officials had received information about a gang of brigands drinking and gambling in the area. Based on information at hand, a beat staff on patrol reached the location. Constables Mandeep and Shailendra were on patrol duty in the area. They both reached the spot and questioned the perpetrators.

However, on being questioned by police, the accused started arguing and a scuffle ensued. They pelted stones at the police officials. On hearing a commotion, locals informed the control room. The injured police officers were rushed to DDU from where they were discharged after treatment. Both constables sustained blunt force injuries to their head.

The accused have been identified as Chandar (38), Suresh (30), Krishna (34) and Naresh (36). A juvenile too has been apprehended. “A case under Section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his duties), 307 (attempt to murder) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) was registered at Uttam Nagar police station. Further investigations are underway,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.

In another incident, a constable on patrol along with traffic officials was pushed out of a moving car in Seemapuri area in North-East Delhi on Sunday. The constable had tried to challan the driver and sat in the vehicle to prevent him from getting away. The accused was later arrested and booked under various Sections of IPC.
