In order to check incidents of crime in the city’s malls and other commercial places, the Noida Police is planning to increase CCTV surveillance in Sector 18 posh commercial market. Authorities are planning to install 62 high-resolution cameras before the Independence Day. Public address systems are also being installed to help the law enforcing agency in maintaining law and order during emergency situations.

Police official said around 30 cameras have been installed inside the market and are being monitored on trial. A senior police official claimed that the initiative will be helpful to keep an eye on eve-teasing, public drinking, brawling and vehicles theft. It will also help to trace people gathered at a particular place and ease traffic movement into inner circle of the market, he said. “We have taken this move to strive for excellence in policing and to secure all possible securities inside crowed places. Cops will be able to get clear footage of an individual or a number plate of moving vehicle that will help in investigation,” said Dinesh Yadav, Superintendent of police (SP), Noida.

“Policemen will announce about the CCTV surveillance in the market. Police will advise people to disperse, in case a mob is created in the market, and to follow traffic rules. Otherwise police will take action,” he said

Yadav said, “We have also decided to integrate a few cameras installed at specific points through Wi-Fi to monitor it online on mobile phones or personal computers by senior police officials from any place.” He, however, stressed that sector-18 market was highly secured as the crime graph has come down in last few months.

Amarnath Yadav, SHO, Sector-20 Police Station, Noida said, “Sector-18 market has been taken under specific crime zone for chain, purse, and mobile snatching and vehicle theft.”

From a security point of view, Noida’s sector-18 is highly-sensitive market where an average footfall is 50,000 daily and increases up to 80,000 on weekends. Around 3,500 vehicles are parked here daily. While 40 banks, 25 jewellery showrooms and hundreds of branded retail outlets and restaurants have been opened here, a five star hotel, a mall and 5,000 offices are also in operation in the area.
