The supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party, while participating in protest along with Delhi Government’s Minister, created nuisance in Central Delhi. They scuffled with police several times through the day.
The supporters, wearing AAP topis, also fought with those who were against the protest of the Delhi CM and his Ministers. The first incident was witnessed around 3 pm when the AAP workers indulged in ruckus with senior police officials. They engaged with policemen when asked to stop using loudspeakers due to imposition of Section 144 in the area. When senior officials opposed the move, scores of AAP members, including women, started shielding the speaker by encircling it and clashed with police. The supporters kept police at bay and started raising slogans against them.
In yet another incident police disconnected Kejriwal’s audio system prompting angry response from the AAP supporters. Police pushed some of the supporters when they tried to break through the barricades. In the evening, a number of AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh and former journalist Ashutosh, were seen having heated arguments with police for allegedly beating a number of their supporters, including Model Town MlA Akhilesh Tripathi. They also claimed that Transport Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj had been detained by police, who denied it.
In a tweet later, Kejriwal said Tripathi was beaten up by the police “brutally”. An AAP leader said Tripathi had to be admitted to a hospital. Around 3,000 security personnel, from ITBP and Rapid Action Force, were deployed at the venue.
