'Cops shouldn't make arrests on frivolous issues'

Alleging that the Delhi Police works at the behest of the Centre, AAP MlAs on Wednesday said that the force was being arbitrarily used against them. During a short duration discussion in Assembly, AAP MlAs demanded action and said that Delhi Police should abstain from making arrests on “frivolous issues”.

AAP MlA Jagdeep Singh, who initiated the discussion  lambasted that Delhi Police’s action to arrest him on assault charges was doctored. “We just wanted to clean up one of the cemetery, which the Mayor of Municipal Corporation refused to carry out. Therefore, we cleaned it up ourselves. later on, when we wanted to dispose the garbage by putting the trash in the truck, we were not allowed to dispose it off. After sometime, I heard that an FIR was lodged in my name saying that I assaulted a group of people in a drunken state. Police is only working on Modiji’s behest and nothing else. There is no evidence against me whatsoever,” he said.

The discussion was further followed by AAP’s laxmi Nagar MlA Nitin Tyagi, who demanded that decision be reached in Delhi Assembly over such arrests. “Many MlAs are getting arrested on frivolous charges. The Centre thinks that they put us under pressure by arresting our legislators on and off, but it is not going to happen. We will fight things out,” he said. AAP lawmaker Dinesh Mohaniya also alleged that “there is a set agenda politically motivated media houses who are trying to put down the image of AAP.”
