Cops see it as triple murder not suicide

A month after body of a 40-year-old man, his wife and his 16-year-old daughter was found under suspicious circumstances, indicating the trio made a suicide pact and ended their lives in Outer Delhi's Begumpur area on February 12, Delhi Police on Thursday found out that it was not a case of triple suicide but a case of triple murder.

"A month into the case, we had registered a case of Inquest Proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC and investigations were going on. On Wednesday, the case took a turn when we received the post mortem reports of the family. In the post mortem report, it has been mentioned that there were strangulation marks on the neck of the three victims.

Initially, at the crime scene, we had found that Rajesh was found to be hanging from the ceiling fan while his wife Uma and his daughter Swati were found to be lying on the bed with a dupatta each, choking them.

In the preliminary investigation, we were looking at the angle that the family was depressed due to some paranormal activity taking place in the house. The neighbours too had informed us about Rajesh confiding in them about the presence of some evil spirits in the Rajiv Nagar Extension house.

Moreover, at the crime scene, our team had found a suicide note left behind by Rajesh indicating that no one is responsible for his death.

Meanwhile, we had assumed that Rajesh had throttled his wife and daughter to death. However, in the Post Mortem examination report, we had found that the bodies of Rajesh, his wife Uma and daughter, Swati had marks indicating that they were choked to death

In cases of suicide, the marks around the neck are different. They are strangulation marks. However, in this case, the marks on their neck indicated that they were choked.

"We have also sent the suicide note to the Forensic Science laboratory to for handwriting analysis. Since the Post mortem report highlight towards death by choking angle, we are going by the theory that the suicide note was planted to divert the attention from the deaths of Rajesh and his family. The suicide note seems to be placed to divert the investigation," said a senior police official.

Police said that they have changed the section of the Inquest Proceedings. "We have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal code at the Begumpur police station."
