The 42-year-old man found dead at former Union Minister and Congress leader Kumari Selja’s lutyens zone bungalow was allegedly killed by a cook who purportedly had illicit relations with the deceased’s wife working as a maid in the house. The accused, identified as Anil (28), a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, worked as a cook and has been arrested by police.
The deceased, identified as Sanjay, was the husband of Manju, who worked as a domestic help at Selja’s residence. Sanjay was employed at the Sena Bhavan. He was found dead on Monday inside the compound of Selja’s 7 Motilal Nehru Marg residence following which police got a PCR call about 8 pm.
“On Sunday night, Sanjay had returned to the bungalow after dropping his wife and two kids at his brother-in-law’s place in laxmibai Nagar for Raksha Bandhan. The ‘close’ relations between his wife and Anil rankled him. Sanjay and Anil argued over this and came to blows,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) MK Meena.
During the struggle, which started in Sanjay’s one-room tenement, Anil thrashed Sanjay. To dodge blows, Sanjay sprinted to the terrace. “Sanjay was pushed to his death. He sustained a fatal head injury and bled to death,” said Meena. Police sources said during questioning, both Anil and Manju admitted to being in an illicit relationship. A senior police officer confirmed that Manju too could be arrested soon.
“We have not given clean chit to anyone. In the investigation so far, it has emerged that only Anil was physically present when the incident took place. Investigations are on and if need be, more arrests will be made,” said Meena. Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) SBS Tyagi said both Anil and Sanjay were drunk at the time of the incident. “Sanjay had come home drunk while Anil had been drinking on duty,” said Tyagi.
