A police constable was suspended after he was found operating an auto business on the national highway where he was posted. Not only he was found guilty of running business, but he was also found extorting money from other auto drivers.

Police said Constable Krishna Prakash, posted at Vijay Nagar Police Station, was feared by auto drivers. “He used to extort money from them. He amassed money and started his own auto rickshaw. He employed a driver about five years ago but did not pay him salary. He used to collect the money from his recruited driver in the evening and threatened to book him in a criminal case if he ever demanded the salary,” he said.

Neeraj Rathi, the driver who revolted against the policeman, said, “Under the threat, I obeyed him, worked day and night without pay.

“On July 13 last, when I returned from my native village, Constable Krishna Prakash called me and asked me to join duty. When I refused, he barged into my home, thrashed me and all my family members, and took away my mobile phone. He threatened me of dire consequences if I did not join the duty. During the last five years, he had extorted over two lakh rupees from me. Before leaving the house, he threatened me to implicate me in a false criminal case of heinous nature.”

After hearing Rathi’s complaint, the SSP suspended the Constable and reportedly ordered to lodge a complaint. The complaint has yet not reached the police station, said the SHO, Surendra Singh Yadav.
