Protesting against alleged scam by the Delhi Government in CCTV cameras project, thousands of Delhi Congress workers on Sunday took out a candle-light march towards the resident of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Addressing the gathering Ajay Maken said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has indulged in huge corruption by awarding the contract pertaining to installation of CCTV cameras to a Chinese Public Sector Unit Hikvision.
He also said the initial cost for the CCTV camera project was for Rs 130 crore when it was decided in October 2015 but the cost was hiked to Rs 571.40 crore by relaxing the tender conditions for the same project. Maken also said that the party used to talk about ending corruption before coming to power but once it came to power it forget all its promises.
Maken further accused the AAP government of compromising national security by awarding a contract to install CCTVs to a Chinese firm 'Hikvision', even as the AAP claimed that efforts were on to halt the project. He also alleged that the clash between the Delhi government and the lieutenant Governor on the issue of CCTV project, are only to mislead the people. "Whenever there is a tussle between the city government and the Central government, the l-G bails out the APP government," he said.
On Saturday, Maken said the Congress will also approach the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and even the court of law for a thorough enquiry into this scam.
The Congress workers carried placards and banners with slogans such as "Mahila Suraksha ka tho tha bahana, asli maksad paisa kamana". On the occasion, Mahila Congress president Sharmistha Mukherjee, P.C.Chacko, Sajjan Kumar, Mahabal Mishra, Dr Kiran Walia, Haroon Yusuf and senior leaders Chattar Singh were also present.
