The Delhi Congress on Monday organised a massive demonstration at Town Hall, Chandni Chowk against implementation of 'Goods and Services Act' (GST), resulting in price rise of essential commodities.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken said the Modi Government was in a deep slumber as prices of all essential commodities have soared. "The prices of common vegetables like tomato and onion have hit the roof resulted in heavy burden on the common people," he said.
Maken also said the rise in the prices of essential commodities have broken the backs of the common people as prices of essential items like clothes, shoes, foods, fruits, gas etc has gone beyond the reach of the common people.
"The GST in its present form by the BJP Government at the Centre has not only adversely affected the businesses of the small and medium-level traders and the common people, but has also created unemployment," Maken said.
Alleging Modi Government for step-motherly treatment to the poor, he said the move to implement GST in present form will only benefit his (Modi's) rich friends.
Many prominent leaders of the party participated in the demonstration, including former minister Haroon Yusuf, ex-MlA Prahlad Singh Sahni, district president Mohammed Usman, 'Delhi State Traders Congress' conveners Anil Kukreja and Ajay Arora, municipal councillor Prerna Singh, former Councillor Kishan Murari Jatav, Ashok Jain, Dharmendra Tomar, Ramlal Bansal, and thousands of traders.
