Cong slams police, AAP Govt for ‘mishandling’ farmers

Staff Reporter

Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar slammed the Delhi Police and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government for "mishandling" the farmers’ on Tuesday.

Terming the violence unfortunate, he said the Delhi Police failed to control the situation. Kumar accused the Delhi Police of acting at the behest of its handlers in the Union Home Ministry. "It is evident from the manner in which the police filed 22 FIRs against 200 farmers including leaders of the farmers’ unions for the violence and mayhem,"he added.

The Congress president further said "It was the duty of the police to properly guide them on the designated route but instead police tried to use force on the farmers, which led to the disorder. Meanwhile, Kumar welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to hold bye-elections to the five vacant seats in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi. He said that the people of Delhi are fed up with the mind-boggling corruption in the BJP-ruled MCDs and the Delhi Government, due to which sanitation workers, doctors, nurses, paramedics, teachers and others have been on strike for the past few weeks, seeking their wages and arrears.

Kumar said that both the BJP and the AAP have been trading charges against each other without owning up the reason for the fund leakage, because of which the MCDs are perennially short of funds.
