Cong protests turn violent

The Opposition Congress party on Thursday staged protests against the proposed Jan lokpal Bill. Congress workers took out a protest march to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, but they were stopped in the middle by the Delhi police, which used water canons to dispel the protesters. Congress party has been opposing the current Aam Aadmi party’s Jan lokpal Bill, accusing the ruling AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in a war of words and sidetracking the crucial legislation.

Congress Delhi chief Ajay Maken had on Wednesday questioned why the Bill had not been tabled yet, even after 120 days of AAP coming into power. “It’s been 120 days since AAP came to power, there is no sign of Jan lokpal, no signs of lokayukta. It’s not only the law minister, there are eight other MlAs against whom there are cases in different police stations,” Maken had demanded. The protest march on Thursday was taken out to press the demand for speedy tabling of the Bill.
