A secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on charges of molesting a 30-year-old woman in front of her husband and children.
The incident allegedly took place in the lok Nayak Puram colony near Bakkarwala village in West Delhi on Wednesday. Dilbagh Sehrawat had allegedly misbehaved with the woman on earlier occasions too.
Apart from being a Congress leader, he dabbles in real estate and is said to be a local strongman. A case under Section 323/354A, 506/509/34( causing hurt, outraging the modesty of a woman, obscene gestures and intimidation to kill) was registered against him at Mundka police station on the complaint of the woman.
Sehrawat was produced before the Tis Hazari court and was sent to 14-day judicial custody after the presiding magistrate took umbrage to his misbehaviour. The ordeal of the woman, her two minor children and the husband is not over yet as they have starting getting threats from Sehrawat's family and supporters.
Rajesh Sharma, a small time property dealer, had lodged a complaint with the police that Sehrwat was harassing his wife. He was not only aggressive but was hurling expletives at her. He had tried to browbeat her into submission.
Sharma confronted Sehrawat at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday about his behaviour towards his wife. Sehrawat reportedly flew into a rage and started abusing Sharma and his wife. He caught hold of his wife's hand and tried to pull her towards him. His two children -- aged four and two -- watched as the accused tried to outrage the modesty of their mother. When Sharma objected Sehrawat and his accomplice Satya Prakash threatened to kill them if they dared report the matter. He reportedly abused the victim and passed indecent comments.
Sharma called up the police control room and local police officials intervened. In the mean time a group of women residing in the lIG flats of lok Nayaak Puram reached the spot and they demonstrated at the police station for strict action against the accused. Accordingly, a criminal case (FIR no-25/2013) was registered at Mundka police station against Sehrawat and Satya Prakash and they were arrested on Thursday itself. They were produced before the court on Friday and the magistrate remanded them to 14 days judicial custody, a West district police official said.
