Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday made former MP and AICC general secretary PC Chacko as the in-charge of Delhi Congress affairs, replacing AICC General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad. The Assembly polls in Delhi are expected to be announced by the first week of February, 2014.
The Pioneer on November 19 had reported that Congress top brass had planned to appoint PC Chacko as in-charge of Delhi affairs after AICC General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad is proceeding on a long vacation to Canada.Chacko had been in touch with all the local leaders for last 10 days and had also discussed with former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikhsit about party affairs in Delhi. He had also headed the Screening Committee of Delhi during lok Sabha polls.
Shakeel Ahmad has said that he had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discharge him from present role since he has to go Canada where his family lives and his wife has some health issues.Ahmad was made in-charge of the party’s affairs in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh in June last year. Gandhi later gave consent to appoint Chacko as State unit in-charge.
