In a bid to strengthen the party’s position, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) on Monday, announced detailed programmes of the Delhi Congress for the forthcoming elections to the Municipal Corporations of Delhi. DPCC president Ajay Maken said the Congress party’s slogan for the MCD elections would be “Toot gayi vikas ki dore, vapas chalo Congress ki or.
Maken said the two-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government in Delhi has witnessed a total stagnation in developmental works. He further said the Congress party will select the candidates for the MCD elections after taking feedback from booth-level Congress workers of prospective candidates in each ward.
As MCD elections are round the corner the Delhi Congress has also started the preparations for upcoming polls. “The first meeting was held with the newly-appointed observers for the MCD elections and the second meetings with all the Block and District presidents. 18 observers have been appointed for all the 14 districts and 103 observers for all the 70 Assembly constituencies. After a series of meeting with observers, block and district president, the Delhi Congress has started the process of inviting applications with the condition that every applicant must submit, along with their bio-data and a list of five Congress workers per polling booth with address and phone numbers. The party will mostly field clean and youth candidates for the MCD elections,” he added.
“The Delhi Congress will publish a chargesheet against the AAP Government, and the 10-year misrule of the BJP in all the three MCDs. We have formed two committees under Farhad Suri, leader of the Opposition in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, to prepare the chargesheets,” Maken said.
“Out of the 67 AAP MlAs in Delhi, 52 MlAs have gone out for election campaigns, and the whole Delhi Cabinet is out of the Capital. We will organise a door-to-door campaign to highlight shortfalls and the failures of the AAP and BJP ruled Governments,” Maken added.
