Cong accuses Vardhan of 'double standards'

In yet another direct attack on BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan, the Congress on Tuesday accused him of maintaining ‘double standards’ in order to garner votes in the upcoming Assembly polls.

The party accused Vardhan of ‘suddenly’ waking up to the plight of people residing in unauthorised colonies. Quashing BJP’s claim of declaring a holiday on Chhath Puja, it said that gazetted holidays are decided by the Central Government and the Delhi Government had long ago declared the festival as a restricted holiday.

Criticising Harsh Vardhan for claiming to set up an authority similar to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi’s Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh lovely said, “This is contrary to his earlier stand, where he had been criticising the DDA for its lukewarm and sleepy response. Earlier, Vardhan was totally against regularisation of unauthorised colonies. He had even complained before the lokayukta against giving provisional certificates to these people. Now, when elections are round the corner and he has been declared as the CM candidate, he is taking a totally opposite stand.” The BJP on Monday had announced of creating a development authority on the lines of the existing DDA in order to take care of development works in unauthorised colonies and villages.”The BJP is misleading Delhiites by assuring a gazetted holiday on Chhath, once it comes to power. The number of gazetted holidays has been prescribed by the Union Government which cannot be increased without replacing any existing gazetted holiday by Chhath holiday. The BJP would have to make it clear that which particular holiday it would like to get deleted from the list,” added lovely at a Press conference on Tuesday where Power Minister Haroon Yusuf and PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan were also present.

Meanwhile, Yusuf lambasted Harsh Vardhan for expressing displeasure over delay in the redevelopment of Connaught Place when his own party had been delaying the execution of Rani Jhansi flyover over the past decade. Chauhan also alleged the MCDs being ruled by the BJP for not regularising safai karmacharis working on a contract basis.
