Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said that Maharishi Valmiki’s message of compassion, equality, and dignity of labour remains crucial for society today. She was speaking at the Valmiki Dalit Mahapa-nchayat held in Trilokpuri on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.
Chief Minister said that Valmiki’s life and his immortal work, the Ramayana, continue to guide generations. “Maharishi Valmiki gave the world the Ramayana, through which we came to know the life and character of Lord Shri Ram in all its depth. His message of compassion and equality is timeless and continues to guide us even today,” she said.
The event saw the participation of citizens, community leaders, and public representatives from across the city including Trilokpuri MLA, Ravikant. Speakers at the Mahapanchayat reflected on Valmiki’s teachings and their relevance in today’s world.
Linking the message of the Ramayana to social justice, Chief Minister said that both Lord Ram and Maharishi Valmiki stood for harmony and inclusion. “Lord Shri Ram walked hand in hand with everyone - Kevat, Nishadraj, Shabari, and the Vanar Sena teaching us that progress happens only when every section of society moves forward together,” she said.
Chief Minister said that Valmiki’s own life was a lesson in transformation and self-awareness. “He showed that anyone can change their destiny through reflection and discipline. His life teaches us that real religion lies in compassion, truth, and helping others,” the Chief Minister said.
She added that in today’s times, when society faces division and inequality, Valmiki’s message is even more relevant. “Our Government works with the same spirit of inclusiveness, ensuring that no one is left behind,” Chief Minister said.
Highlighting her Government’s welfare approach, the Chief Minister said the Delhi Government is committed to providing equal opportunities in education, healthcare, and employment. “Society is like a chariot; it moves forward smoothly only when all its wheels are balanced. Our effort is to make sure every citizen moves forward equally,” she said.
Chief Minister also said that her Government’s focus is on creating a Delhi where every citizen lives with dignity. “Only when Delhi progresses with equality and mutual respect will we truly realise the dream of a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Delhi,” she said. “Our goal is to ensure that every citizen enjoys equal rights to growth, dignity, and opportunity,” she adeded. The Mahapanchayat concluded with community leaders urging the youth to take inspiration from Maharishi Valmiki’s life of service and humility. They said his message of equality should guide social and political action in the years ahead.
