Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday reviewed the on-ground preparations of the Chhath ghat at Munak Canal in the Shalimar Bagh area and directed officials to ensure organised landscaping of the area.

She reviewed the progress of various works and directed officials to ensure proper lighting and cleanliness during the festival. “Delhi government aims to complete the construction of the ghats and related development works before Chhath, enabling devotees to offer prayers in a clean environment,” the chief minister said.

The CM also reviewed the development of green spaces. “Directed officials to ensure that plantation is not carried out without a well-thought-out plan. Instead, landscaping should be undertaken in an organised manner, keeping in mind the overall appearance of the area and the space available,” CM said in a statement.

Reviewing the construction of the Chhath ghats and arrangements in surroundings, the CM directed officials to complete the finishing work on ghat walls, nearby pathways and related locations on time. She instructed them to ensure that the walls are painted, the area is cleaned, excess construction material and debris are removed, and lighting is installed wherever required. She specifically directed officials to arrange attractive lighting and decorative light strings around the ghats for Chhath so that the entire area looks beautiful and festive.

The CM said that the Munak Canal area, once known for uncleanliness and disorder, is now being transformed into a clean, beautiful and organised space. The CM issued instructions to officials on waste management and cleanliness in area and directed officials to ensure that cleanliness receives attention alongside development works.

“There must be no accumulation of garbage on roads and footpaths, foul smells or haphazard waste collection under any circumstances,” she said.
