Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched several major projects including a project to generate 55 MW electricity through the installation of rooftop solar plants on 1,000 Government buildings, at Rithala in Northwest Delhi and laying a foundation stone for a 66/11 kV GIS grid substation at Mubarakpur Dabas, inauguration a modern fire station in Narela. She also unveiled a 25 kW solar rooftop plant at the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Rithala and a fire station in Narela.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister underlined that her Government is working with foresight and determination for the comprehensive development of Delhi. “This work will be completed by January next year, and rooftop solar plants and work will start for installing solar plants on the rooftops of other identified Government buildings,” she told the reporters. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a fire station in the area, and laid the foundation stone of a power grid project of TPDDL discom.

The BJP Government is writing the “golden chapter” of a clean, green Delhi by ensuring scientific disposal of waste by setting up waste-to-energy and biogas plants, she stated.  Work on an e-waste processing plant in Tehkhand has also begun to dispose of discarded electronic items like mobile phones, chargers, batteries, among others, she announced. The Chief Minister said that Delhi generates 11,000-12,000 metric tons of solid waste per day, while just around 7,000 metric tons is disposed of.

“How would the garbage mountains in the city be removed if the waste went on piling up. Our government started work on waste-to-energy plants and updated older ones while setting up new plants,” she said. The programme was attended by MP Yogendra Chandolia, Delhi Energy Minister Ashish Sood, MLA Rajkaran Khatri, Kulwant Rana, and other dignitaries. The Chief Minister stated that Delhi has entered a new era of development.

She announced that solar panels are being installed on 1,000 government buildings, generating 55 MW of clean energy upon completion. The Chief Minister said her Government is also working to make Delhi pollution-free and has procured 3000 electric buses. The Delhi Government, through Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), is establishing a 66 kV grid substation at Mubarakpur Dabas. It will provide reliable and uninterrupted electricity to Mubarakpur Dabas, Karala, and the surrounding areas.

With a capacity of 50 MVA, the substation will supply power to 16 feeder areas, strengthening the supply network and ensuring continuous, quality electricity. It is being constructed with a sanctioned cost of `78 crore and a total built-up area of 2,171 square metres, it added. The substation, equipped with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and geographic information system (GIS) technologies, will cater to rising electricity demand in Karala, Mubarakpur and surrounding areas, said a Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) statement.

The fire station, spread over approximately 1,000 square metres, includes facilities for filling water from Delhi Jal Board overhead tanks and borewells. The 25 kW solar energy plant at the Delhi Jal Board building will generate over 28,000 units of electricity per year. This project is part of the Delhi government’s ambitious plan to install solar plants on government buildings, with a total capacity of approximately 5.5 MW. These plants are expected to produce over 6 million units of electricity annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 4,220 tonnes per year, aiding in environmental protection.
