Taking cognisance on the death of homeless people due to biting cold in winter, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked land-owning agencies in the city not to demolish any jhuggi till the winters is over. This may be noted that Delhi has recorded the death of 91 homeless people recently.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP unit chief Manoj Tiwari alleged the poor conditions of night shelters in city and urged lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to direct the officials to conduct surprise visits.

Reacting over the issue, Tiwari alleged that a large number of homeless people have died in the past fortnight in the city. “The report of death of 91 homeless people has shocked Delhi. These deaths have exposed the Kejriwal Government’s claims of providing facilities and shelter to the homeless people,” he said.

Tiwari further said the l-G should direct the Chief Secretary and other officials for surprise inspections at these shelter homes to ensure the homeless people have safer place to sleep at night. “We have come to know that at many places the shelters are locked and at few others the caretakers ask for money for entry,” he added. “Also sanitation condition is very poor at many other shelters,” the BJP president said.
