Taking cognisance of health issues plaguing the national Capital following worst outbreak of dengue and chikungunya in the city in recent times, lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung held a review meeting with senior officials of the three civic agencies on Monday.

The lG directed the municipal corporations to take legal actions against concessionaires responsible for cleaning dhalaos (garbage dumps) and also directed the Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) to prepare a roster.

While directing the three municipal commissioners, Jung instructed them to keep a tab on the cleaning of dhalaos. “Municipal commissioners should ensure that dhalaos are being cleared twice a day and Revenue Commissioners will prepare a roster and carry out daily inspections in their districts,” said the l-G.

Also, Jung told the commissioners to ensure that poor patients get free treatment as per EWS quota and take suitable action against defaulters.

Health Minister Satyendra Jain, who was also present at the meeting, informed the l-G that the OPDs in Government hospitals are running till 4 pm daily, fever clinics are open on Sundays and emergency services for fever patients are available 24/7 in all Government hospitals.

The Health Department was asked to ensure that in the wake of increased pressure on hospitals, better standards of cleanliness are maintained and patients are made to feel comfortable, said the Minister.

“While briefing the l-G about steps taken by the municipal bodies to control the spread of vector-borne diseases in the city, the three commissioners told the l-G that fogging, spraying and efficient collection of garbage, cleaning of dhalaos, deployment of compactors, processing of construction waste being checked by corporations. The numbers of chikungunya and dengue cases have climbed down in the last week,” said one of the commissioners.

Awareness programmes on vector borne also are being conducted by holding regular meetings with RWAs, schools, hospitals and through disseminations of pamphlets/leaflets in districts.

The l-G will be reviewing the situation again in next few days.
