With an eye on the upcoming Assembly polls in Delhi, three municipal corporations ruled by the BJP have expedited the process of approving the improved layout plans of these colonies that will allow sale and purchase of properties in these areas.
the East Delhi Municipal Corporation had notified the layout plan of the first of the 895 colonies last month, the three civic bodies are together set to approve the layout plans of 14 colonies by the next month.
Once the layout plan is notified, a colony gets converted into an Unauthorised Regularised (UR) colony and thereby enabling registration of properties as residents also become entitled to avail all the civic amenities that a property owner is eligible for in a regularised colony. Moreover, they can also avail home loan from banks. Having notified layout plan of East Azad Nagar, the East Corporation is preparing plan of five other colonies. Similarly, North Delhi Municipal Corporation is preparing layout plans of five colonies, while South Delhi Corporation will also be finalising layout plan of four colonies — one each from four administrative zones.
“The building department of corporation has almost finalised the layout plan. The plan is likely to be tabled before the standing committee for clearance during its next meeting. Officials have also been asked to take up the layout plans of other colonies in a phased manner,” said Mahender Nagpal, leader of House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Similarly, leaders in the two corporations said the layout plans would be approved as and when they are submitted by the RWAs.
It is noteworthy that the Delhi Government has appointed three consultants - Jamia Millia University, IP University and the School of Planning and Architecture to provide technical assistance to the RWAs in making improved layout plans.
Of the 895 unauthorised colonies notified for regularisation last year, 312 are on private land. In the first phase, the three corporations are making the layout plan of colonies on private land.
