Delhi continued to be chilly on the New Year’s Eve with the minimum temperature recorded being 4°C, three notches below the season’s average. Tuesday’s temperature was slightly higher than Monday’s 2.4°C but offered no respite from the teeth-chattering cold. The weatherman has predicted similar conditions over the next two days as the sky would continue to remain cloudy.
Just a day after December recorded the lowest temperature in 17 years, the temperatures rose only marginally and cold winds blowing throughout the day. “Weather conditions were normal for this time of the year on Tuesday. Visibility was also normal at around 1,500 metres. Fog conditions were normal,” said a senior MeT official.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 4°C, three degrees below normal but 1.6 degrees higher than Monday’s 2.4°C. Humidity remained between 100 per cent and 84 per cent. The MeT office also said the city received 6.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, which has intensified the cold.
The maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at 19.7°C, which was one degree below normal.
The MeT Department said the spell of intense cold would continue on Wednesday and there may be one or two spells of rain in certain areas, later during the day. “The sky would remain cloudy and there will be winds. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 17°C, while the minimum will be around 10°C,” he informed.
