Centre wants to share profit, but shifts liability to city Govt: CM

Staff Reporter

Day after the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development allegation on Delhi Government for delaying the Metro phase IV project, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "I am surprised at this news. Centre and Delhi Government hold 50:50 equity in Delhi Metro. Now, centre says profits will be shared 50:50 but all losses will be borne 100 per cent by the Delhi Government. Is this fair on people of Delhi? The Delhi Government is only saying that losses should also be borne 50:50."

Incidentally, on Monday, the  HUA Minister said certain financial conditions imposed by the Delhi Government have jeopardised the Metro phase IV projects, leading to substantial delay and inconvenience to people as conditions are contravention to the Metro phase III and Metro Rail Policy 2017 passed by Parliament.

As per the Ministry sources the project is under appraisal of independent agency as certain changes have been made by the State Government in the revised detailed project reports of six corridors.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi  assembly, Vijender Gupta said that Kejriwal must withdraw  unilateral and rootless conditions blocking Delhi Metro Phase-IV as Delhi metro has been profit making since its inception. "The conditions are self-imposed by the Delhi Government without any sanction of the Metro Railways (Amendment) Act, 2009 and the later Metro Rail-Policy 2017," said Gupta, adding, "These conditions are unconstitutional and unacceptable by any standard.
