The murder case of Geetanjali Garg, the wife of the Gurgaon Chief Judicial Magistrate, on Tuesday was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation after a week. The decision for transfer of the case came following a meeting of family members and close relatives of Geetanjali with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
After the meeting, Hooda ordered to transfer of the case to the CBI. Not satisfied with the investigation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Gurgaon police into the murder case, her family sought CM’s intervention. The family members of Geetanjali have also been demanding Narco analysis and lie-detector test of CJM Ravneet Garg.
Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police on Tuesday claimed to have found third bullet shell from Parade Ground where Geetanjali's body was found. Two bullet shells had been recovered by the SIT and Forensic experts on Monday. According to the Gurgaon police, the post-mortem report has mentioned that one bullet has hit her stomach while another hit the chin and pierced through her head. A third bullet was also fired which injured her neck.
Not ruling out the suicide theory, Surender Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said that three bullets had pierced through Geetanjali's body. One bullet did not cause any damage to her body, second bullet which pierced her stomach could not cause immediate death and third bullet entering below her chin and crossing her head can cause immediate death. “The .32 bore bullet, which hit her stomach, can give her sufficient time to fire third round at herself,” said the officer. The angle of the third bullet, which might have caused her death, is such that it is very difficult for anyone else to fire at such an angle, Pal added.
Family members of Geetanjali alleged that the SIT was not doing proper investigation into the matter and was trying to eradicate the evidence against her husband, even they have visited the spot thrice but they did not recover any bullet shells initially.
The family members rued that though an FIR had been registered two days ago, no arrest has been made in the case. “We kept on demanding for the positive probe into the case. From the day one, we were in the favour of CBI probe and also met Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,” said Rajesh Gupta, cousin of Geetanjali Garg. Gupta said, "We were not satisfied with the way the investigation being carried forward by the Gurgaon police. We want the accused to be caught and prosecuted soon."
According to the Gurgaon police, when Ravneet Garg was questioned, he said that Geetanjali had scolded a driver and a peon for irregular. He, however, said that the chances of peon or driver killing Geetanjali are remote. Another theory in support of the murder is that why Geetanjali would come out of her home and commit suicide, the officer said.
