CBI probe into fitter’s death sought

Staff Reporter

Seeking a Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) probe to ascertain the facts into the mysterious death of Mahesh Prajapati, the maintenance fitter who had allegedly jumped to death from the seventh floor of the Metro Bhawan last week, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) staff association conducted a silent protest on Sunday by tying black bands at Yamuna Bank Metro Station. Also, the metro staffs and relatives of the deceased condoled  his death.

“We want justice and also request the DMRC not to grant compensatory appointment to Mahesh’s wife. As she is the main reason behind his death and suicide as she pressured and tortured him to possess his property and when he refused to do so, she dragged Mahesh and his family to court filing a false dowry case.

“He was in a depression and alone and that he killed himself. Moreover, the girls (wife of the deceased) family withdrew their complaint as soon they got the news of his death,” said Bhumesh Prajapati, the brother of the Mahesh.

The 33-year-old man was working as a maintenance fitter with DMRC was missing since March 22 and was found dead at Metro Bhawan on Monday morning.  However,  Delhi Police have ruled out any foul play in the incident and said  that was a suicide though no suicide note was found in possession of the deceased. The police also said that the deceased had some matrimonial issues.

However, pointing a foul play in the incident, the staff association of Delhi Metro has demanded an independent probe into the incident.  “There are many issues related to the incident. Why did the incident take place at Metro Bhawan, why was he called? And why was there no witness? Moreover, if a person jumped from seventh floor, how his body can go under the staircase, so that nobody can see his body. There is a clear case of abetment in this matter. Moreover the Human Resource (HR) department  also tortured Mahesh who was already going through many family issues and also prevented Mahesh from joining his duty,” claimed the Staff Association of  Delhi Metro.

The association member further said, “Such behavior of HR department is disturbing for everyone and will destroy the organization. The department has also kept quiet and has not taken action earlier when a staff named Nakul died in an accident while going home on a DMRC cab. The conditions of  Delhi Metro staffs are very poor due to failed actions and pressures of HR department. We want justice to our friend and the DMRC should recommend probe by  CBI to know what really led to his untimely death,” said a staff.
