Cattle rustlers from Mewati gang corral cows, 1 nabbed

Staff Reporter

The Mewati gang again created menace on city roads after they clashed with police officials who were trying to nab them after they were caught stealing cattle from a shed in Shiddipur area in North Delhi. The cops fired three rounds at the rustlers after they started pelting stones at police officials but that failed to deter the gang. A local was also injured in the incident and various vehicles, including a police van, were damaged in the crossfire.

The drama unfolded in the early hours when a Police Control Room (PCR) van on Rani Jhansi Road spotted a Tata 407 and signalled it to stop. When the vehicle continued to inch along, cops flashed a message on the wireless. The chase was joined in by cops on a bike. The rustlers pelted stones at cops and rammed into an incoming cop car. In retaliation, cops fired three rounds. This is when the Mewati gang members started tossing the stolen cattle to dissuade police officials from following them. The chase finally ended with the Tata 407 ramming into a parked truck. Out of the four accused, one of them has been identified as Hakimuddin (25). The Tata 407 was seized by police and five stolen milch cows recovered. Senior police officers, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar Bazar) Sanjay Kumar Sain, reached the location. Constable Jitendra and Head Constable Mukesh were on the motorcycle whereas Constable Hitesh and Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramesh were in the PCR. The police officials involved in the ops will be suitably rewarded. “A case u/S 186/332/353/394/307/34 was registered at Sadar Bazar PS,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.
