Coming as a good news for aspirants preparing for UPSC, medical and engineering entrance exams in the national Capital, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to end the problem of lack of coaching centres in the city by letting out its schools as coaching institutes. This move will not only ensure increase in number of coaching institutes but also fetch revenue for the cash-strapped municipal body.

Officials said thousands of students come to Delhi for coaching and participate in competitive exams for commercial courses like Engineering, Medical, Chartered Accountants and UPSC. “The famous coaching institutes are facing problems to admit all the aspirants due to lack of sufficient place. These 390 municipal primary schools can be run as coaching centres due to availability of electricity, transportation and availability of sufficient place,” said an NMC official.

As per the corporation, these coaching centres would be permissible in school classes after school hours with prior approval of competent authority in case of schools run by the Delhi Government or local body.

With this move, the Municipal Corporation can increase the source of income by letting out premises of MCD schools, where only morning shift is running. “Through this NMC can fulfill the responsibility for development of resources in favour of society and also aims at increasing the revenue for the corporation. The classrooms are empty post school hours. This period can be utilised to ensure more revenue for the corporation,” said an official in the Education Department.

According to the NMC, the Education Deparment has 765 primary schools, out of which 390 are running morning shift. Around 1,800 rooms can be made available for coaching centres in the evening without disturbing the education activities of students of NMC.
