Two youths who had come with the intention to steal a car ran out of luck when after fleeing with a private cab, they rammed into a stationary truck in Southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 23 area on Saturday night, leaving one dead while the second youth managed to flee. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Danda aged around 20 years.

Police said that while one of the accused succumbed to injuries, the other accused managed to flee the spot.

Talking about the incident, a senior police investigator said, “On Saturday night, around 12.25 am, one Chander Pal, a driver with cab aggregator Ola, was returning home in Durga Vihar in Dwarka from Gurugram. When Pal reached near the Dwarka Sector 19 red light, two youths asked him to stop. They asked him for a lift. When Chander Pal refused, they whipped out a knife and asked him to let them have his cab, a Swift Dzire,” said a senior police official.

However, as luck would have it, when the two accused barely drove four kms away from the spot, into the Dhul Siras village area, they rammed the stolen cab into a truck which was parked on the road side.

“locals gathered at the spot and found one of the two youths stuck in the mangled car following which they informed the Police Control Room (PCR). One of the accused was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where he was declared brought dead. On enquiry, he was identified as Ashok Danda, a resident of Haryana,” said the officer.

“looking at the condition of the car, we suspect that the accused were driving at more than a speed of 100km/hr,” further said the officer.

Police has registered a case under IPC sections 397, 34, 279 and 304 A at the Dwarka Sector 23 police station and investigation has been taken up.

“We suspect that since the other accused is injured, he must have got himself treated at a private clinic in Dwarka or adjoining area. Teams are working to nab him,” added the officer.
