Security agencies have issued an alert in and around the national Capital after a man was caught with eight live hand grenades in Jammu by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The accused identified as one Irfan Hussain Wani, a Kashmiri, was about to deliver the consignment to an accomplice in Jammu when he was intercepted by Jammu and Kashmir Police team after a specific intelligence input.
Wani, 25, was put to sustained interrogation and confessed that he was going to deliver hand grenades a source who was going to carry it to Delhi and was to be further handed over to subversive elements to create mayhem in the city during the Independence Day celebrations at historic Red Fort.
Inspector General of Police (Jammu regions) SDS Jamwal told media persons that Wani from Dangerpora-Awantipora village of South Kashmir, was arrested from Gandhi Nagar locality of Jammu city on Sunday. "He was carrying this cache of grenades to Delhi to hand it over to a contact. These grenades would have been used to disturb the Independence Day celebrations," said Jamwal, adding that he was also carrying Rs 60,000. He said a police squad noticed him moving suspiciously at Chatri point.
Security forces are on alert in the wake of intelligence inputs that Kashmiri terror groups lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and owing allegiance to the rogue Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) are trying to launch a terrorist strike in the national Capital to disrupt Independence Day celebrations when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
Meanwhile a team of Delhi Police Special cell on Monday reached Jammu to interrogate the suspect Wani to know about the conspiracy to attack Delhi. "This is a big catch ahead of Independence Day" said a Delhi Police official adding that they are taking no chances and have deployed men and officers to keep an eye on any suspicious movement in the run to the preparations.
"Wani is a highly radicalised youth and has been involved with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind led by Zakir Mussa and was in regular touch with number two of the outfit, Rehan", said the Delhi Police official. This is a big catch since it has helped agencies unmask the plot hatched by ISI and various terrorist groups to create trouble during celebrations in Delhi and Jammu as well, said police officials.
