Summary revision of electoral rolls uncovers over 2l phony balloters

After Delhi Assembly polls in 2013, a total 2,09,761 bogus voters have been identified in the national Capital. Of these, 1,20,605 have been recognised holding duplicate voter IDs while 89,156 have been found with multiple voter IDs. This has been revealed during summary revision of the electoral rolls. After identifying duplicate voter identity card holders, the Delhi Electoral Office has ordered to rectify 89,156 multiple voter identity cards and 1,20,605 duplicate voter identity cards in the national Capital.

These discrepancies have been identified through two pronged approaches — IT-enabled applications and field verification was adopted to identify multiple entries and image duplication software. It is noted that Congress and AAP have been alleging that a large number of duplicate voters are being enrolled in the electoral list in Delhi. It’s another word that AAP leaders have failed to provide any proof regarding bogus/duplicate voters.

The Delhi Election Office has deleted 12 lakh bogus voters just before the Assembly polls in 2013. Sources said that booth level electoral officers verified physically and after that appropriate rectification has been done. Besides another measures was taken on December 30, 2014 when each BlO certified the correctness of the electoral rolls in specifically organised certification centres.

The Election Commission of India also allowed suo motu deletion after following due process of notices in those cases which were found to be questioned after the field verification. In all those cases, notices have been already been issued by the respective elector returning officers for the appropriate action as per law. Presently, such list of duplicate voters has been kept in the polling stations.

The District Electoral Officers have already apprised the political parties about these rectification steps. The Electoral Office of Delhi is also planning to prosecute those voters having duplicate voter identity cards or multi-identity cards. Besides, Delhi High Court has also sought reply from Delhi Election Officer on a petition filed by Naresh Kumar, who unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket from Mundka in the 2014 Delhi Assembly polls.
