BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India Post to promote financial inclusion and digital payments among the under privileged sections of the society.

As part of the agreement, camps will be organised at the door-step of residents in the over 200 identified JJ Clusters — benefitting over one lakh people — in South and West Delhi, a senior BSES official said.

The official informed that these residents would not only be educated about the importance of financial literacy and digitisation but also facilitated to open India post payment bank accounts and given a cheque book and a debit card. “The card can be used to make online payments of BSES electricity bills.

Additionally, they will also get free insurance of up to Rs 2 lakh. BSES will pay the first year premium for the same, he said.

He claimed that this is the first time; such an agreement has been inked between a power distribution utility and India Post. After South and West Delhi, a similar program will also be rolled-out in East and Central Delhi areas soon.

Announcing this pro-consumer initiative, a BSES spokesperson said, “This partnership is in-line with the Government’s objectives to promote financial inclusion and digitization among all sections of the society.

“This is also in line-with our efforts to promote cashless transactions. Because of our sustained efforts, already around 93 per cent of our collections are through cashless means. This tie-up will give a further boost to BSES’ digitisation drive,” he said.

BRPL and BYPL are premier distribution companies and Joint Ventures between Reliance Infrastructure Limited and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
