Congress on Tuesday said the contents of a letter by Nirav Modi to the PNB reflects an arrogance that emanate from his assurance that he would get away 'scot free' in the multi crore PNB scam allegedly using his connections in NDA regime.
Taking a jibe at the Centre over Nirav fleeing the country, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, ''I would like to request (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji, on behalf of all of us, to bring back the other Modiji, when he goes on another of his many foreign trips. Rahul hit out at Modi Government alleging that it ''actively" participated in corruption by allowing bank-loan defaulters Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi to escape the country.
''With the Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi scandals, we know that the Government not only cannot remove corruption, but it is also actively participating in it. This Government has, instead of giving hope, security and economic growth, dealt us only with hopelessness, unemployment, fear, hatred and violence,'' Rahul stated.
AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said the contents of the letter reflect an arrogance that emanate from his assurance that he would get away 'scot free' in the case thanks to his connections in the present regime.
Nirav, the chief accused in the Rs 11,400 crore PNB scam allegedly wrote to the bank on February 15 stating that the bank has 'thwarted' possibilities of the loan getting repaid by going public with the case.
Tewari said not only Congress but the country wanted to know what action had been taken in the matter and questioned the veracity of such a letter. "If one looks at the letter and its contents, it reeks of arrogance. Such an arrogance, coming from someone who faces such serious charges against him, only show that he has no intention to return money.
It perhaps emanated from an assurance that he would go scot free in the case. One wonders who are the persons who encouraged Nirav to write such 'arrogant' letter," Tewari asked at AICC briefing.
