Breaking new ground in Ph 3

The Phase III of the Delhi Metro will stand apart from the rest of its corridors for it has adopted a number of innovative techniques for timely and seamless completion of the project. Construction of the Jahangirpuri to Samaypur Badli line, extension of line 2 (Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre), is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The elevated corridor will have three stations and will cross over the Delhi-Ambala route of the Northern Railways for which a 45 metre steel span bridge will be used for the first time. The bridge will be over 12 metres above the existing railway track and permission from Railways is awaited to launch the steel girder bridges. Moreover, the Metro alignment at one stretch of the corridor will run over a PWD flyover, being constructed on the Outer Ring Road.

The line is expected to be open for the public by March next year. About 10 per cent to 25 per cent work is left to be completed at the three Metro stations, Badli Mor, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli, on the 4.3-km long corridor that will draw commuters from Jahangirpuri, GT Karnal Road, Rohini, Transport Nagar and Badli in North-West Delhi.

The ridership on this route in 2016 as per DPR is expected to be around 7,186 at Badli, 11,133 at Rohini Sector 18 and 10,262 at Samaypur Badli. According to DMRC officials, 10 per cent work is to be completed on Rohini Sector 18 and Badli Mor stations while nearly 70-75 per cent work is over at Samaypur Badli station and in the overall viaduct construction in the corridor.

Another interesting feature of this line is that in just a length of over 4-km, the corridor has as many as eight curves. Besides, the stretch will also have eight steel spans installed on it. “Since, PWD is also constructing flyover on Outer Ring Road, the Metro alignment has been planned above the PWD flyover. One of the piers on Outer Ring Road is, in fact, common for both the Metro alignment and the flyover. This has been planned in

consultation with PWD and the construction of this common pier is being done by DMRC,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate Communications), DMRC.
