The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has filed a complaint with the police against former vice-president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) Shehla Rashid Shora for making “unpleasant remarks” against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Rashid in her tweet on 9 June said : “looks like RSS/Gadkari is planning to assassinate Modi, then blame it on Muslims/Communists and then lynch Muslims # RajivGandhiStyle”. Her remarks came after the Pune police claimed to unearth a Maoist plot to execute a “Rajiv Gandhi-type incident” against Modi. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991.

Gadkari took offence to Rashid's tweet and said, “I would be taking legal action on anti-social elements who have made bizarre comments; attributing personal motives to me, regarding the assassination threat to PM @narendramodi.”

In response to Gadkari's tweet, Rashid had clarified that her “tweet was a sarcastic reference to the baseless media campaign being run at prime time in which photos of JNU student, Mr. Umar Khalid and his father, Mr. S Q R Ilyas were being flashed alongside news of the purported Modi assassination plot”.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's representatives on Monday submitted a complaint at the Parliament Street police station.

“The message is totally false, unfounded, concocted and without any basis. The message also promotes insecurity and uncertainty in the country by levelling unfounded allegations that RSS/Gadkari is planning to assassinate PM Modi,” the complaint said. Police said that they have received a complaint but no FIR has been lodged. They are inquiring in the matter.

“This is a plot by her and divisive communist forces to ruin and spoil the peace and harmony of nation. She must prove on what basis she has leveled such allegation,” said Rohit Chahal, national media incharge , BJYM.

“After carefully constituting and concocted said message Ms. Shehla Rashid malafidely, wantonly tweeted the said message giving provocation with the complete knowledge , intention and understanding that the provocation caused by this ill will message will cause people of certain sections to commit riots against people of some other sections,” said BJYM in the complaint.

“Further by tweeting the said message on the social media Ms Rashid is promoting enmity between different groups of the society on the ground of their religion as well as on the ground of their affiliations to a particular political and social ideology such as communism and others and by circulating and tweeting the said message she has caused enmity, disharmony , hatred and ill-will between different sections of citizens on the basis of their religion and their affiliations to different ideologies,” stated the complaint.
