As preparations for the Assembly polls in Delhi are gradually gaining momentum, the BJP aims at bringing first-time voters into the partyfold. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, has begun a membership drive targeting untapped young voters within the age group of 18-19 years. There are nearly 3.5 lakh first-time voters in Delhi and an approximate 5,000-10,000 in each of the Assembly segments.
A committee of three youth leaders will be formed to approach the first-time voters registered in each of the polling booths across the 70 constituencies in the Capital. There are 11,763 polling booths in the city. “The membership drive has been launched in all 14 districts. We want to connect to all 3.5 lakh first-time voters well before the Assembly Polls. The idea is to rope in maximum number of youths to join the BJP, which will strengthen the BJP’s vote bank for the crucial polls,” said Gaurav Khari, president of the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
“If we manage to connect to all new voters through sustained campaigning, it will immensely benefit the party in the December 4 elections. The youths will play a major role in determining the election results. Our leaders and workers will persuade the youths showing the development model of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the party’s manifesto for the upcoming polls,” he said.
In order to make it a success, the party will provide identity cards to the new voters on joining the BJP and also write letters urging them to join the party. He said that block-level meetings will be taken up where several issues and matters related to development and other activities for the area will be discussed. Since July this year, the party’s youth wing had launched nationwide membership drive where, 45,000 new members
joined the party. Out of these 45,000 members, 5,000 have come online.
Earlier, the BJP leaders had started writing letters to each of the first-time voters in their respective areas. While the leaders have been educating them on significance of their votes; they are also persuading the youths to vote for the BJP to dislodge the Congress-led Government in Delhi. This, leaders said, is in keeping with BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s idea of encouraging the youths to vote in the crucial elections.
The BJP leader also highlighted the failure of the UPA as well as the Congress Government in Delhi and advised them to cast their votes judiciously. “Vote BJP — Defeat Congress — Don’t waste your vote,” appealed the BJP leaders to the voters. Through their letters, the leaders have also raised the issue of spiralling fuel prices, high power and water tariff, skyrocketting prices of essential commodities, including onion, tomato
and milk, dwindling
economy and increasing crimes against women.
