BJP rolls up its sleeves

After failing to come out with flying colours in the recently held civic agencies bypolls, the BJP is getting ready to win hearts and minds of Delhiites by starting groundwork for the upcoming 2017 municipal elections.

Sources said the party has decided to begin a full swing preparation for 2017 polls once the party president is “reinstated”. Among other things, the party will focus on issues like sanitation, education and primary health, the basic functions of the MCD. “The obligatory duties of the MCD will be our top priority. We will ensure a makeover of garbage disposal system where there are no dhalaos required,” said BJP president Satish Upadhyay.

Apart from civic issues, the rift between AAP and BJP has always been a hurdle in smooth delivery of services. “We will not only focus on issues of sanitation but will also highlight the fact that the power to appoint sanitation workers and teachers lies with the Government. The public will get a sense of the condition in which BJP-led MCD is working because of the non-cooperation of the Delhi Government,” said Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP General Secretary.

Accusing the AAP Government for not releasing funds, Sood said, “It is because the Government withheld funds that the city is suffering. If there are no funds, the service cannot be provided to people. Issues like education could not be focused upon owing to the lack of funds.”

The debutant AAP managed five out of 13 seats in the MCD bypolls along with Congress which also got five seats, followed by BJP that received three seats.

The new team has been asked to divert funds towards sanitation and ensure focus on cleanliness. After being elected the Standing Committee Chairperson, Pravesh Wahi said the focus would be on Swachh Bharat Mission and keeping the North Delhi cleaner with the cooperation of RWAs.

“A special scheme would be initiated very soon in this regard. Zonal Deputy Commissioners, Sanitary Inspectors and Assistant Sanitary Inspectors would ensure cleanliness of an area under their jurisdiction daily. By this, we would be able to clean more than 400 colonies intensively in a day,” Wahi said.

He said first installment of `25 lakh of development fund would be released soon to the councillors.
